Does your toddler have any snacks during the day? These are wonderful, complete meals, and probably leave him feeling pretty satisfied. I struggle to get my almost-3-year-old to eat during meals. I feel like it’s because he knows he will get a snack in an hour.
he does. in fact he probably gets more snacks than he needs. it’s one habit that i’m currently working on getting better about. i’ve definitely noticed if i’m not quite as liberal with the snacks he eats better at dinner. but, at the same time, i’m a huge snacker. i prefer smaller meals and more snacks and if he’s the same way, i don’t want to deprive him of that just because “normal” is 3 meals and 1-2 snacks per day…so it’s something we’re currently working through trying to figure out what’s best for him!
Like the list a lot! When you serve your little ones a treat, do you always serve it the meal? At what age did you allow the donuts, pie, cookies etc? I am a dietitian as well. I have a 16 month old daughter. I try to stay very neutral in my emotions to what she eats and practice Ellen Satter technieques as well. I want to find a good balance of allowing her to have the “not so healthy” foods with “healthier” foods. I’d be interested in trying serving dessert with the meal like you have pictured. Does your toddler usually eat the dessert first?
with my oldest i was a lot more strict about no sugar etc until after his first birthday. that all kinda went out the window with my second. i work really hard not to put dessert on a pedastal. i actually wrote about this a little bit in this recent post: https://www.theleangreenbean.com/tips-for-feeding-toddlers/
Hi there! These are helping me get out of our quarantine rut. Running out of ideas.
My son is only 13 months old, are these appropriate portion sizes for that age? I feel like he eats a lot more than what is pictured on your plates.
i always recommend starting small to minimize food waste. you can always serve more!
