GaiamTV Review

Hi Friends!

It’s foodie penpal reveal day tomorrow so we’re moving Fitness Friday up a day. Today I wanted to take some time to tell you guys about GaiamTv. I recently had the opportunity to test it out and really enjoyed my experience! Thanks to GaiamTV for sponsoring this post.

gaiam1

So what is GaiamTV?

It’s an streaming internet TV channel. For $9.95 a month, you get access to over 2,000 titles right from your computer. These titles include documentaries, feature films and special interest programs in categories like films, personal development, spirituality, metaphysics and explorations. Check out all of the different categories and subgroups:

On the fitness side, the site offers hundreds of fitness and yoga workout videos, plus food and nutrition documentaries like Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, and many more!

gaiam14 e1354070737664

Before I had a chance to review this website, I knew that GaiamTV offered workout videos, but I thought that was it. I had no idea they had so many other great documentaries and videos available! The first thing I did after logging in was spend some time exploring the non-fitness side.

So what’s on my watch list??

watch e1354072784855

I can’t wait for winter break when I finally have time to watch them!

Next, I moved on to the fitness side. Over the span of a couple weeks, I tried out several different workouts.

First up, abs! When you click on one of the titles, it gives you a description of the video, the length, the different levels available and tells you any equipment that you will need. It also lets you add videos to your queue so you can start a list of ones you want to try.

I found it was most convenient for me to go to the GaiamTV website on my ipad. Then I could just set up shop in the basement and get to work. I’m a sucker for anything Jillian Michaels so I also tried her Ripped in 30 workout. Marucs, however, is not a Jillian fan. He turns his back on her.

This was definitely my favorite workout! Fast paced, a mix of strength, cardio and abs and done in 30 minutes. Win!

Up next, yoga! So many yoga videos to browse through…can’t wait to try some of them out.

So, if you like workout dvds, I’d highly recommend GaiamTV. It’s reasonably priced and has tons of great options that you can do at home, in a small space, with minimal equipment. I truly enjoy making up my own workouts and sharing them with others, and I will continue to do so, but there are some days when I’m just to tired to come up with anything on my own. On those days, GaiamTV is perfect because it gives me instant access to tons of great workouts! The access to tons of great documentaries and films was definitely an added bonus.

Let’s chat! Do you like workout videos?

Enjoy!

Love GaiamTV! I was honestly shocked at how many Jillian Michaels DVD’s they had. She’s my absolute fav and Gaiam is always so associated with yoga.

Hmmmm, this is very tempting! I do LOVE workout videos, and I’m getting sort of sick of my three Jillian DVDs that I keep rotating….I may have to look into this. Although my local Half Price Books store is SO easy!

Very cool! I’m not usually a workout dvd person, but I have been getting more into the Tara Stiles yoga dvds, so I may look into this for more variety!

I am excited to try the free trial! I loved the 30 Day Shred DVD and was going to buy some other Jillian products. Is it hard to see them on a tiny screen like an iPad when you’re trying to do the workouts?

Hi gal, just a thought but I don’t like to do the tapes as much as with a group so I formed a group at work we stay after for an hour and we motivate each other. I think I will treat my group to the Gaiam TV if we like the trial. I can hook the laptop to the projector so it is big enough for all 10 of us to see. Hope you have an awesome day Haley ( by the way your blog looks great too just signed up to follow)

Hi Dana! Thanks for the awesome idea! I may have to send out an Outlook invite to see if there are any ladies on my floor that would be up for a group class. 🙂 So creative. And thanks for following The Saucy Apple!

I try to do some workout DVDs occasionally, to change things up, but I honestly am not a huge fan of them. My attention seems to wander. I stay much more focused in a group exercise class setting.

Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead is on my to-watch list, too. Have you seen Food Inc.? I’m guessing you have, but anyway I really like that one too.

I love the convenience of on demand workouts available online or through my local cable provider. They’re great for when I’m pressed on time and need just a little something.

I always just workout at home and would love to do workout videos but can never find any good ones! It’s a nice option to have though. This internet streaming channel seems like a great way to get a variety of workout options!

Ohhhh, this might be right up my alley. Spring & Fall are busy for me traveling with work and I struggle with winding down at night in hotel rooms with channels I’m not familiar with. In terms of workout DVD’s, I do like some of the free ones I’ve found online & also subscribe to Yogaglo. Thanks for the great review!

Looks like my kind of TV. We don’t have cable of any kind, this would be cool. Perhaps Marcus should be more friendly to Jillian his tummy needs her 🙂 I’m in love with your orange cat!

great review… I’ve always wondered about their workout selection.

I really want to mention sweatn.com. It’s similar to gaiamtv but it focuses on workout videos. I’m a member of the sweatn.com team and I would like to invite everyone to try it out. Its a free alternative.

Its a work in progress but we really hope that you, the community, help us make it better.

check out the workout videos at sweatn.com. were looking for beta users

I love the Gaiam Products and never knew about this. Thank you for reviewing it, Lindsey. I think 9.95 is a little steep for the amount of content, but I love the specialized programming. I am definitely going to give it a test drive.

I have been using Gaiam TV for a couple weeks and I am highly disappointed. For the last three nights each segment of the Yoga series I am doing freezes all the time. I love this particular practice but am disappointed that I can’t use it.
