Hi friends!
Time for some Friday chitchat.
I haven’t been sleeping all that well this week so I’m particularly happy that it’s Friday. Some nights I’m waking up every hour…and not even to pee!…and some days I’m waking up at 5am and not able to fall back to sleep. Annoying, but I usually just get up and start working and try to catch a nap in the afternoon. It’s definitely been one of those weeks when I’m thankful for a flexible schedule.
In other news, the weather here has been GORGEOUS this week. Think low 70’s and sunny…IN JULY!! What?! I love it. We’ve been enjoying some long walks with the dogs in the evenings and then temp has been, dare I say, cool!
This was also a particularly busy week for me in terms of recipe development. I seemed to have tons of deadlines that all fell this week for both the blog and for other clients, so I think I made and photographed something like 9 recipes this week! #exhausting!
We’re working on some big decisions in baby world. First- finding a pediatrician. Luckily, when I put out a call for local suggestions on Facebook we got an overwhelming number of responses for one specific practice that’s close to our house so that definitely helped narrow it down. We have a meet-and-greet appointment with one of them in a few weeks, so that will be good.
Next, we started trying to figure out childcare. To say it’s been stressful is an understatement. I’m fortunate to work from home and have a very flexible schedule, but that also makes it challenging trying to figure out how much help I’ll need and coming up with options. In my opinion, this is one of the hardest aspects for us to plan for….but we’re fortunate to have a good friend who is back in school and also has a flexible schedule so I think the plan is to have her come over a couple mornings a week after the holidays to help me out, give me some uninterrupted time, etc. And from there, we’ll see how it goes!
Finally we signed up for some classes. We chose to go the express route for the parenting class and knock it all out in one day instead of spreading it out into shorter classes for 3-4 weeks…and we’re also signed up for a breastfeeding class and a CPR class.
I mentioned this is a previous post, but a couple weekends ago we finally sat down and made a big dent in our baby registry. We ended up using BabyList and I’ve been super happy with it. There’s a little button you can install on your tool bar and then you can basically add items from any website to your registry. It’s almost like the Pinterest of baby registries. A lot of our stuff is from amazon but I was also able to add stuff from Etsy and some other stores. It was a pretty overwhelming experience but I’m feeling good about our choices and feel like we at least got a lot of the big stuff researched and added.
Plus our crib is being delivered today! Yay! Once that’s in place, we’ll be able to see how the rest of the furniture fits, hang some stuff on the wall and then share some pictures!
Another fun weekend project was painting a couple of photo boards. This has been on my list forever and we finally got around to it. We just went to Home Depot and picked out a few pieces of wood and now we’re painting them or staining them different colors so I have some different options to shoot my photos on! So far we have a white circle and a gray-stained square. This weekend we’ll flip them over and paint the other sides for a total of 4 options. (Excuse the terrible photo- the white board is actually a beautiful white- not yellow!)
Question for moms:
Did you keep some sort of memory journal of baby’s first year? Milestones? A thought a day? That type of thing? There are a lot of books out there and I don’t want it to be overwhelming but I would like something where I can jot down little memories as the days go by.
I think that’s all for today.
What’s on your agenda for the weekend?
Enjoy!

I have a baby’s first year book, that I’ve sort of half filled in. I emailed myself all my son’s milestones, with the idea that eventually I’ll go back and finish the book! A great idea I read was to sign up for an email account in your baby’s name and then you can just email your kid all their milestones. I thought that sounded awesome, but then I thought about a 14 year old boy looking at an inbox of 15,000 emails, just think, “Whatever, mum & dad.”

haha i can def see a teenager saying that 🙂

Whatever you decide to do for a baby book, it is really worth it. I shared my second son’s baby calendar with him and his wife when they had their little boy! It was fun to look at! Same goes for the baby book I kept for my oldest. Even if you jot down a note and shove it in to record later!! I loved the idea of emailing yourself the milestones that one of the commenters had. Have fun planning!

I filled a baby book and also created a scrapbook for my sons 1st and 2nd year. Scrapbooks are the best because I can organize cards, pics, other important memories. I’m loving all of those organizing things! I want one of each. 🙂 happy Friday!
Lindsay says
i used to be huge into scrapbooking! i need to get back in the groove!

That onesie is the best! You are so organized! I’m glad you found a pediatrician you like. We have had the same one for over 13 yrs. and I absolutely love him. He’s approaching retirement age and I won’t let him until both my kids are all done with needing him! ; )
Lindsay says
haha i love it. tell him to hang on a few more years 🙂

I did have a book for the really big things, but I also used a fun kiddo calendar to quickly jot down the “firsts”. That way, I at least knew when my daughter had her first haircut, sprouted her first tooth, first word, etc. I quickly realized I didn’t have enough time to write a ton on each first/milestone, so this was a time saver, but also a fun way to remember some big moments!

I agree- the childcare piece is totally overwhelming, especially when you work from home and are trying to figure out part time care. Glad you have a friend who should work out! I’m looking into some local college students, too. As for the memory keeping, I had a small journal that I jotted down notes in or quick letters to the baby and then also had a more traditional “tracking” baby book for stats, photos, etc. I liked the combo. Which reminds me, I need to get both again before #2 gets here!

My kids are old but I had a baby book that I kept pictures, mementos, and made note of happenings and events in their lives. I was much better at it with my oldest!

What would we do without Pinterest right?!

The baby stuff really is getting so overwhelming but I’m kind of glad I’m not alone in that feeling! I’m a little jealous that you are already in the process of setting up your room!

Congrats on your baby news! I’m currently 31 weeks pregnant and now it seems like the time is flying by! I so wish I would have known about Baby List as a registry option! I just checked it out and what a neat idea! Such great stores on there too. I have a friend who swears by the Honest Diapers!

A lot of baby books mention Mom and Dad and since our little guy has two moms, I bought a book that doesn’t really mention the parents. It’s beautiful and we love it. It was kind of expensive but worth it. It has lot of space for years past just the first year. I’ve been mostly good about writing down the major milestones and things like height/weight.

I did the monthly photos with Jamie and recorded each big thing that happened that month with him, then used Photoshop to put it all together. When he was 1 we ordered books from MyPublisher of his first year with all the monthly photos and memories, plus pages and pages of ALL the photos we took that first year in smaller sizes.
Also, this little journal for Mom’s gives you a few lines per day to jot down a little story or funny things they said or did: http://www.amazon.com/Moms-One-Line-Day-Five-Year/dp/0811874907/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405769334&sr=8-2&keywords=memory+a+day+journal

great idea! thanks!

I’m not a mom so sorry I don’t have much advice to give. I like keeping memories but it’s unrealistic to keep everything or document everything. This blog has taught me that.
I pray you have a happy pregnancy, that you enjoy every new stage, and with a delightful baby at the end of this stage of motherhood.

thanks so much!
