Hi Friends!
Totally random post today. I noticed something was annoying me the other day and for some reason it got me thinking. It was a little thing…something that most people probably wouldn’t even notice…but it was driving me crazy. I thought it might be fun to make a list of other such things that annoy me. Perhaps some of you can relate to them.
I was originally going to title this post “Things I Hate”…but hate is a strong word…and that’s not really what these are. Just funny little things that drive me crazy, just because I’m me!
{I imagine Marcus finds it annoying when he just can’t get his head
quite far enough into the glass to get the milk he wants}
So here we go:
1) Seeing the alarm symbol in the corner of my phone. I’m not one of those people who can leave their alarm set all day every day. Seeing that little symbol drives me crazy. I set it right before I go to bed and turn it off right when I get up. Side note- I also have to set my alarm for a time that ends in a 0 or 5. None of this waking up at 7:23 business for me. 7:20 or 7:25 please.
2) Listening to people chew. Can.NOT.stand.it. The sound of other people chewing drives me crazy/makes me want to cover my ears and run away screaming.
3) Pimples that haven’t been popped. I know it goes against everything they tell you…but I HAVE to pop my pimples. I can’t stand seeing those little whiteheads on my face that haven’t been popped.
4) Having a full inbox. This one is a constant struggle…but having a full inbox drives me crazy. Although I almost never get to empty anymore…I do my best to keep the number of emails in my inbox low. Coming back to my computer after a weekend of ignoring emails…cue mini panic attack until I get it under control.
5) People saying they can’t find something...when they haven’t even really looked. My husband, to a T.
Him- “Where are the chips?”
Me- “In the pantry.”
Him- Cursory 5 second look around the pantry and then “I can’t find them.”
Me- Walk to the pantry and pull them out 3 seconds later. Sigh.
6) Drinking water without ice. No thank you. I love cold water…room temp grosses me out. Plus I love chewing on ice.
7) Wearing shoes…or socks….or when the blankets are tucked into the end of the bed too tightly and I can’t get my feet out. Drives me nuts! My feet need to breathe.
8) Pants that are too short. Story of my 5’11 life…but really. There is nothing worse than finding a pair of pants you love, trying them on and having them look like high-waters.
9) Choosing paint colors. Have you done this lately? It is THE WORST. The color on the wall never looks anything like the paint chip…and there are just too many to choose from!
10) The Facebook app on my phone. It shows me three posts, and then I scroll down and it literally shows me the exact three same posts again. Stop wasting my time that I’m already wasting!
11) Bad lighting...Like when your pet is doing something adorable…and it’s too dark to take a good picture. Or they look really cute, you take a picture…and then they just look grumpy and angry in the pic.
12) Getting nothing but junk in the mail. I’ve always loved getting the mail…but now it seems like all we get is junk. Makes it not even worth walking to the mailbox! Send me some good snail mail!
13) Non-athletic shorts. Ugh. Give me a pair of lightweight leggings, a long skirt or a maxi dress over a pair of regular shorts any day.
14) Slideshow articles. You know the kind. You see an article headline online that sounds really interesting…and then it’s one of those where you have to click through a million pages of a slide show to see the whole thing. Just put it all on one page please!
15) Slow walkers. Hubby and I have long legs. We walk fast. Getting stuck behind a slow walker on the sidewalk/stairs/grocery store aisle, etc. is excruciatingly painful.
———–
So there you go. 15 things that annoy me.
Let’s chat:
Tell me some of your minor life annoyances!
Enjoy!

Katie says
Oh Lindsay…I love this. Here are a few of mine:
1. People that don’t know how to walk in heels and still do
2. Talking in acronyms…
3. A dirty car..
4. People who don’t return your call
Lindsay says
you probably don’t wanna see my car 🙂
Linz @ Itz Linz says
lol!! i HATE #2 & 3!! but i do prefer room temp water haha funny and fun post 🙂
Polly @ Tasty Food Project says
I can’t stand people that walk slowly too! Don’t get me started on how I feel about slow drivers! lol
Arman @ thebigmansworld says
5’11…….Wow. I thought I knew you, Linds. What is this fallacy 😉
Slow walkers. The number of unspoken foot races I go through in a week.
Minor life annoyance- having the opportunity to sleep in and waking up earlier than your standard time naturally. Worst.
Lindsay says
yep. waking up earlier than you have to always sucks!
LOLZ says
The facebook app for smart phones is probably the worst app ever. It never loads, it crashes frequently and it’s just awful. I’m glad someone else brought that up.
Lorna says
Lovely funny post. Numbers 2 and 5 are pet peaves of mine too. Finding empty containers in the fridge – the yummies are gone but the dish they were in is still there – yes dear husband of mine I am talking about you.
Julie says
Oh, so true. My dh puts the empty box back in the cupboard. And then wonders why I didn’t buy more of that item when I went grocery shopping…
Lindsay says
ahhh yes. my hubby does that too with the empty boxes!
Cori says
Absolutely to:
“where is ___”… Ben does it to me all the time too.
slideshow articles… unless I’m 100% in I will 100% click the X instead.
slow walkers… I’m not as tall as you but I am 5’9” so my legs are moving at longer strides too… get outta my way! 🙂
debikayo says
HAHAHAHAHA- LOVED this post- a couple things (and all men reading this know that I mean this in a funny fashion!!) First- men finding things. The adage around here is that as far as my hubby (and many more as their wives tell me) that if it isn’t front and center, or if it doesn’t fly up so they can shoot it, they can’t find it!! In the Northwoods, this is especially hilarious to all of us. the more Urban among us, maybe not so much. The idea is that men are more the “hunters” in a deep genetic sense and that their brains are not set up to discover the chocolate syrup that is cleverly hidden behind the gallon of milk. Idk, it is accurate in my house! 😉
I can not ABIDE having my feet trapped by tight blankets, I always figured that was a manifestation of my claustrophobia!
I don’t mind the slideshows quite as much as I HATE having to watch a video for an interesting news piece. I am in the country and my internet can be a bit pokey, so videos are annoying!
I MUST empty out my inbox when I see the red dot on my phone’s icons, or my computer’s, but I don’t get as many emails as you I would guess!
And listening to people chew- O. M. G. no
I can’t even with people who drive slow…… oy
THIS made me smile, thanks for a GREAT post!! Happy Friday
Lindsay says
ahhh yes. the video thing. hate that!!
Maryea {happy healthy mama} says
#2 and #15. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said to my poor daughter: “Chew politely.” Ahh can’t stand to hear chewing. And slow walking drives me crazy, too. Sometimes I think it’s good for me to slow down, but I. just. can’t. Happy weekend!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
Haha, I love a good list like this….I can’t stand hearing people chew or swallow or any other food sounds…I can’t stand toothpaste in the sink and as I said in my blog yesterday, I hate leaving the beds unmade before leaving the house for the day.
francine says
oh my gracious, YES YES YES to #14!! internet slideshows are the. absolute. worst. ever. like, seriously i just stopped refusing to click through, unless it’s information i’m desperate to get (like a specific recipe).
ps i’m totes a slow walker, but a fast driver, so i understand your frustrations, lol!
Lindsay says
i agree. just say no to slideshows!
lindsay says
4, 8, 10, and 14!!!! but i hate cold water. LOL opposite here
Erin @ The Almond Eater says
Hahha I HATE slow walkers buuuut my 5’2″ self always has the opposite problem with pants–why they gotta be so long?!
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
Pants. I avoid wearing real pants. Rather wear leggings, skirts, dresses, yoga pants, shorts, running shorts, etc!
Lindsay says
right there with ya!
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says
I can relate to you on so many of these things!! Sound of people chewing…hate it!! I’m only 5’8″ but TRUST ME…I am so thankful crops are in, because all my pants are high waters 🙂 And the “people not finding things…” I think that may be a husband thing because Brian does the EXACT same thing!! HAHA! Have a great weekend, Lindsay!! 🙂
Lindsay says
definitely a husband thing!
Hazel says
5 totally applies to my hubby too!
8 I have the opposite problem. Pants are always too long on me I’m 5’3″ & I have to get all my pants shortened.
15 Yes! Slow walkers drive me nuts & I would add to that people who block the traffic flow. Ok, you wanna talk to your friends but please don’t stand in front of the stairs/escalator/main entrance & make everyone have to walk around you.
And I will add, when hubby expects me to be able to read his mind. Sorry I don’t have telepathy!
Lindsay says
yes…mind reading is not a gift of mine either!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
haha #3 and #15!! It’s probably a good thing that my face is clear most of the time, because as soon as there’s a pimple i immediately have to pop it.
lexa says
So many of these are true for me. I can’t stand when dishes are left in the sink when the dishwasher is not full and obviously dirty. My 3 yo will ask me to help her with something when my hubby is sitting right next to her. He is doing nothing and I am typically making dinner. He doesn’t say anything until I say, “ask Daddy he is right next to you”.
Lindsay says
1. Open cabinets in the kitchen. How hard is it to close the cabinet after you get a glass out?
2. Improperly hung toilet paper.
3. The chip/veggie to dip ratio in restaurants. Yea, like I’m going to eat 2 cups of hummus with 5 baby carrots.
Lindsay says
yes…the bad ratio is the worst!
Jackie says
Chewing grosses me out too!
Cathy says
Great list! Mine include:
1. People who drive below the speed limit on the highways – I spend an hour a day each way going to and from work…let’s move people!
2. food wrappers on the floor – my kids do this all the time with granola bar wrappers or any of their “treats” we have – how hard is it to just put the wrapper in the garbage??
3. clothes on the floor – for some reason my kids think the laundry hamper is the entire floor of their room. Really, how hard is it to open the closet door and put it in the basket!!! I think my kids are trying to drive me insane!
4. toilet paper coming “under” it MUST come over the top!
Lindsay says
haha #3…i was guilty of that as a kid and still am 🙂
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
LOL – I’m with you on the app symbols (any of them annoy me), husband never being able to locate anything, ever, slow walkers? Move along please especially in cross walks, and i’m so sick of the slideshow articles. I often just close the tab completely and move on to something else. One of my biggest peeves is tailgaters.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Bad lighting makes me grumpy when I am trying to take pictures of food for my blog! 😉 And I am totally with you on the annoying chewing. There are a couple of people in my family that I cannot stand to eat with simply because of that…it’s definitely annoying :/
Becky@TheSavedRunner says
Oh my gosh slow walkers and paint colors are my annoyances too! We are trying to pick out a paint color for our kitchen and it’s such a hard decision. And I’m not even going to get started on the slow walker rant. 😉
Lindsay says
good luck! we’ve resorted to always just picking one of the “most popular” colors from their website.
Laura @ Raise Your Garden says
People who cut their toenails in public. Yup. That’s mine.
Think I’m going to pass out right now. That’s how often I’ve seen this happen!! ewww.
Lindsay says
haha so gross.
Elizabeth {Positively Healthy} says
Totally agreeing with the husband and not able to find i.e chips.. drives me nuts when I totally go and find it literally sitting right there on the shelf!
Julie says
Totally with you on #14 and 15. Why oh why do people continue to post
slide shows? I am at the point where when I realize it is in that format, for the post part, I hit the back button.
As for #15, I am short (5’3″) and still drives me crazy. Yesterday it was a woman walking super slow, with her umbrella open, in an area with scaffolding set up that was really narrow. Impossible to pass her because of said umbrella 🙁
My addition – doors left open, like cupboard doors and closet doors. Or microwave door. Drawers too. They. must. be. closed. Okay, maybe a bit of OCD on my part?
Deirdre Francks says
People chewing, facebook app, slideshow articles, and slow walkers, AMEN. I literally dread my 2nd period class because the girl next to me chews carrots with her mouth open every single day.
Dietitian Jess says
Can definitely relate to a few of these… I think my annoyance list would be too long to share, haha. I would definietly add 1) poor grammar/spelling 2) people who think they know everything (especially about nutrition and have no formal education or training) 3) people who drive slow in the left lane, please get over. Grrrr!
Lindsay says
#2- good one!
She Rocks Fitness says
HAHA! I can relate to a lot of these. I cannot stand w hen people bite down on their silverware…it gives me goosebumps and makes me cringe. I also cannot stand “normal” shorts. I actually refuse to wear them now a days. Happy Friday!
Lindsay says
ugh biting on silverware makes me shudder!
Hilary says
I hate the sound of people chewing! Especially apples and bananas and carrots!
Lindsay says
bananas are a bad one!
karla @ finding my fit says
The chewing thing is my BIGGEST annoyance. My co-worker chews so loudly I can hear him in my office and it makes me cringe.
And slow drivers..really you’re going to go 40 in a 55!?!
Fiona says
# 2, 5 and 15 are literally the worst days of my life!!!
My husband tells me, the annoyance of chewing is an actual like disorder…and he pulls the ‘I can’t find it’ without looking EVER!!!
Plus slow walkers, can’t ever, how do slow walkers get any where EVER???
Love this post!
Lindsay says
haha right?! must take them hours to get anywhere!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
I am 6ft 1, know how you feel re clothes – and everyone thinks being tall is wonderful!! Oh and the walking, long legs equal long strides! Even a slow walk for me is a fast pace for most!
Lindsay says
yep! painfully slow for me is normal speed for others
Rebecca Jo says
YES! Why does FB do that – they want you to slick on every thing they notify you on so it will clear – drives me insane!
Yes – I have to pop pimples no matter what. Forget ‘saving the skin’
Full inboxes – UGH! My husband’s email is like 2,389 in his inbox. Really? I’d give up on life.
Lindsay says
ugh! mine too! like 1,500 emails or something. drives me nuts just looking at his phone!
Raquel says
LOVED this!!! I also hate listening people chew! It’s horrible when you’re at the movies and all you hear is the popcorn chewing. I even think I’m more “delicate”, I can’t stand the sound of liquids going down the thoat hahah!
Lindsay says
i agree with the liquids as well!
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
love the SNBC glass 🙂
Marissa @ Barefoot Colorado says
GAHH slide show articles are horrible!!!
Laura @losingrace says
I agree on SOOOO many of these, but especially on hearing people chew and the slow walkers things. Those 2 things will get me instantly irritated!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Haha YESSSSSSSSS… I’m with you on almost all of these! Especially numbers 3,4,5,9,11, & 12. My husband is the same way as you with the bed sheets, and it actually drives me crazy. He’s always untucking our comforter and sheets, and I’m always tucking them back in. 🙂
Lindsay says
haha it’s a constant battle!
Lisa @ RunWiki says
You nailed it! Especially #14- can’t stand the slide show– if you want more page views, find them from someone else!
Lindsay says
exactly!
Axel (@ Iron Rogue) says
#3, #5 and #15. Amen.
misszippy says
#8: at 5’4”, I have the opposite problem!
Pain colors–it’s hard, isn’t it? I have more than once “taken” a color that I’ve seen at a friend’s house and used it in mine. They have a better eye than me so I hope they know it’s a complement!
Fun post!
Lindsay says
i’d say that’s definitely a compliment!
Amber says
Oh my gosh – I thought I was the only one that hated slideshow articles. Thank you for confirming that’s not true – they are so annoying!
I feel you on slow walkers too. I have to walk down a long hallway at work to get to the parking garage and always seem to get stuck behind slow walkers. It’s worse when they’re not even distracted by a conversation but are actually just that slow.
Lindsay says
haha yes. slow for no reason is definitely worse!
Cathy says
1. Open cabinets in the kitchen.
2. Improperly hung toilet paper.
3. People in the line at the grocery store who stand there while their groceries are rung up and only when the total is given to them, do they reach for their wallet or checkbook. I assume they think that this is the day the total will be “FREE”
Lindsay says
haha, never thought about #3 but that’s a good one!
Christine says
Having a full inbox, pimples and slow walkers are the worst. But hearing people chew is my number one pet peeve in the entire world!!! I get so angry and have to walk away. My boss will take a large bite of a sandwich while talking to me. You can imagine why I’m looking for a new job…
Lindsay says
don’t blame ya 🙂
Maureen says
aaa I love this! Aside from #6 & 7 (I dont’ like drinks super cold and I always have to wear socks) I am right there with you on all of these. Also one other thing that is little is when you ask someone something, they say ‘what?’ and before you can repeat yourself they answer your question. Why did you say what if you heard me? Not sure why that bothers me so much haha!
Lindsay says
yes! drives me crazy!
Julianna @ Julianna Bananna says
definitely not a fan of regular shorts as well as people who walk slow, too!
Lori says
I had to LOL at “stop wasting my time that i’m already wasting”!!! Hysterical and so true!
Niquole says
Haha! 2, and the sound of dogs licking 5, my fiance does this constantly yet he wants to be a detective… 8/ 15 because of the same reason. I am 5’7 with a 34″ inseam.
Lindsay says
ahhh yes, the dog licking gets annoying real quickly!
Amelia @i_heart_kale says
Such a great post! You crack me up. 🙂
Here are a few things that bother me:
1) Don’t drive in the left lane, aka fast lane, if you’re not at least going to go the speed limit!
2) People who smack their gum.
3) Slow walkers (agree with you here and I am short).
4) People that talk on their cell phones in public bathrooms. Gross!
5) Friends that only contact you when they have nothing better to do. Gee thanks, glad to know you’re bored and I’m your last resort.
6) Spelling. With modern technology and SPELL CHECK, why can’t people use it?
7) Punctuation when texting. Enough said.
Lindsay says
haha spell check. good one!
Danielle says
I SOO agree with #5, #8 and #14. Sometimes I feel like my fiance thinks we’re out of something if it’s not front and center in the fridge or on the counter. Sigh, is right.
Matt @ Runner Savvy says
Amen to all of these!
Lisa @ Running out of Wine says
I am the same way about my alarm and only turning it on right before bed. When I read that I actually thought, ‘do people really leave it set all day?’. My husband used to set the alarm for random times and I thought it was SO weird. I need to set at least 2 alarms which I always set 5 minutes apart (even though I never have any trouble getting up, its just my OCD). I also can’t stand not having my bed made and wet socks!
Lindsay says
ugh…wet socks. so annoying!
Megan A @ Life on Planet Marsz says
OMG This is all so me, to a T!!! (Well, except I don’t mind socks, but I do have to have one foot hanging out from the covers when I go to bed.) I love this post!
Debbie @ Live from La Quinta says
I’m only 5’8″ but I have a hard time finding pants that are long enough too. Even worse, I have big feet, so I really hate when I find a pair of shoes that I love but they don’t have them in my size.
I need cold water too. I’d never hydrate if I had to drink it room temperature. And I agree about slow walkers. I always walk like I’m racing. And don’t get me started on drivers (too late)..those who don’t use their turn signal, who don’t move over for runners (especially when I’m running with my dogs). And when I’m driving I am annoyed by pedestrians who act like teenager..they walk across the parking lot without looking, then stroll slowly in front of you like you don’t exist.
Whew! Thanks for the post and the chance to vent 🙂
Lindsay says
haha walk like you’re racing. i love it!
Kirsten says
How about drivers that don’t use their turn signals… I am from Toronto and spend a lot of time in Florida where few drivers signal. Is this a Southern USA
thing? I also am big on recycling. Toronto is really recycling friendly, here in Florida not so much. ( Then again there is no snow in Florida which is a huge bonus in the winter months).
Lindsay says
ahh yeah, recycling is a good one!
Amy Ramos says
Some annoyances that come to my ind are:
People who don’t use their singals. They are there for a reason!
Putting dishes in the sink when the dishwasher is dirty.
Brittany @ Barr & Table says
5, 13, and 15. Seriously, my husband is the same way.. “is the dishwasher clean or dirty?” Well.. did you check? Haha! Also, the shorts conundrum.. seriously, leggings and maxis are a million times better.
Lindsay says
right?! booo shorts!
Amy says
I’m with you on the, chewing, people not being able to find something (hubby totally), too short pants (and I’m only 5’5″- why am I dealing with this??) and slow walkers- my hubby and I worked retail our whole lives and we are used to hustling!
I don’t use my phone alarm, but similarly, I can’t stand for the indicator light to be blinking, as it does when a message/facebook notification or email is received. Even if I don’t read it right away, I have to turn the phone on and clear the alert.
I also agree with people not using turn signals. I can’t count the number of times I’ve sat at an intersection waiting for a car to pass, only to find they are turning before they get to me.
Along with the chewing thing- pets licking themselves. I was trying to eat lunch the other day and I had to put some music on to drown out my dog’s constant licking.
Wearing shoes in the house, and the subsequent mess it makes. We have these flowering trees in our development, and every time hubs goes outside, I end up with petals and grass clippings all over my house.
Messiness in general- again, husbands are famous for this. Mine uses a lot of pepper on his steak, and every time he does, half a grinder’s worth ends up on the kitchen floor. I also have issued with stuff left lying around- shoes in the middle of the living room, dishes, etc., laundry left on top of the washing machine when the hamper is RIGHT THERE…
I actually can’t for stand bed blankets to be UNtucked. When I get out of a bed in the morning, it looks like I was never in it to begin with. I also hate for the bed to not be made in the a.m.
People who burp, etc., out loud in public, (especially ladies) or who blow their nose at the table-that one is huge. Apparently I know too many people who do this! 🙁
Bad spelling, especially when you’re referring to something that may be in a package right in front of you, yet you still spell the name wrong. I see this on facebook a lot. Also, using the wrong word- like ‘that doesn’t make any since’ instead of ‘sense’. Yes, I’ve seen it.
I could go on for days about people in grocery stores. I’ll just stop now. 😉
Lindsay says
blinking lights drive me crazy!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
I can relate to so many of these! Some of mine:
1) Those little red circle notifications on the corner of iPhone apps. I MUST check on the notifications to get rid of them, even if I don’t care about the notifications themselves.
2) When people don’t use their dang turn signal.
3) Mumble-y talkers.
Lindsay says
i’m with ya on the notifications. must get rid of them asap!
Melanie @ Nutritious Eats says
lol! No seriously this made me laugh out loud. This could be my list for sure (well except the pants issue cause I’m a shorty but mine would be the opposite because they’re always too long!) and regular shorts don’t bother me…but right there with the rest of it. I am going to have to think of mine.
Lindsay says
you should write one for sure! i think i could write a round two…apparently i have a lot of minor annoyances 🙂
Jolene says
Ha! I love this! I HATE when M is like where’s the milk? Uh, where do you THINK it is? and he’s even staring at it IN the fridge 😉 My biggest annoyance right now is still not being able to see clearly after LASEK 3 weeks ago…I am the world’s most impatient patient and this has taken a lot longer than I had anticipated (though it’s actually a nromal amount of time, unlike LASIK which is so much faster!). I am accustomed to double letters, reading my computer two inches from my face, not seeing my eyebrows clearly…lol 😉
Lindsay says
ugh. frustrating! hope they heal soon!
Rachael@AnAvocadoADay says
Ha! I think we are married to the same person! Or maybe all men are helpless when it comes to finding things in the pantry? My husband just asked me where the sriracha is….ummm right there with all the other condiments!
Lindsay says
i’m thinking it’s a man thing 🙂
JenB says
Funny – I’ve actually had a similar post in my head. I was thinking of a title somewhere along the lines of Pet Peeves. I haven’t written it down yet, but pimples make my list, even on others (I have to pop hubby or #1 son if they let me). I can’t stand shoes and socks! I ONLY wear them when absolutely necessary and take them off the second I can. And like you said, can’t have the blanket covering the feet to sleep either. I empathize with you on the slow walkers too, I TRY to be patient!
Lindsay says
haha you should write one too! it was fun!
Angela says
Haha I can relate to so many of these! But funny thing, I can’t stand the sound of someone chewing on ice! How do you not like the sound of chewing yet you can chomp on ice?! I don’t get it! LoL
~Ang
Ali says
Oh man. Slow walkers are annoying but even more annoying are the people who hog the sidewalk or wherever you’re waking like aisle and then you have to either step around or confront them. Nobody wants confrontation so I always inconvenience myself because they can’t share the space.
Also hate internet slideshows but I’ve recently discovered that many of them have the ability to read them all at once but it’s usually written in small print and you have to kind of suss it out. Totally helped me feel like I beat the system when I discovered that. Lol.
Nicole says
I agree with these! Slow walkers and slow walkers who walk in a pack and take up the entire sidewalk 🙂
