An easy, homemade version store-bought Wheat Thins!
**Pictures updated 2/2015**
Over the weekend I made a batch of Homemade Wheat Thins thanks to a deliciously simple recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod. They were simple to make and taste even better than store-bought! If you’re a cracker lover like me, give them a try!
What’s your favorite cracker? Have you ever tried to make it at home?
Enjoy, my friends!

These sound delicious because who doesn’t love Wheat Thins?! One question though… what is a pastry blender?
Is it one of those things that looks like three rounded half-moon herb slicers with a handle?
“Pastry blender” = “fork” or “fingers” in my mind. 🙂
Yep! I just use two knives if I don’t want to get mine out.
Wow—they look awesome! I’d only be concerned that I’d eat them all at once 🙂
I miss wheat thins (and other things like that) sometimes…I used to love them, but now I would not touch that stuff. Thanks for this idea!
thanks!! i’ve been trying to ration them out, but they are almost gone 🙁 i blame the hubby!
isn’t it crazy when you think about all the things you used to eat when you were younger!!!!
I can’t believe you made your own wheat thins-that’s awesome!
i know!! or in my case didn’t eat…i was world’s pickiest eater!
Your baking skills continue to impress me! I need to get the courage to try some of these breads and crackers you are whipping up!
thanks 🙂 you should definitely try these. i loved them!
They look just like the regular crackers! Awesome! I do love wheat thins.
i know! i couldn’t believe how much they looked like the real thing.
Wow! I LOOOOOOOVE Wheat Thins (ate some yesterday in fact), especially with pimiento cheese. [My mouth is watering…] I am VERY impressed by your results! I tried to make crackers once and it was an EPIC EPIC fail. My friend made some using a pasta roller/machine to make them super flat. Maybe with your recipe and that idea combined I could do it.
that pasta machine idea is GENIUS. i’m totally making another batch this weekend and trying that. what a perfect way to get all the dough the same thickness!!! thank you!
These look perfect! I also used to be a wheat thin fanatic! I bet these would also be perfect with other flavors worked in – possibly even cinnamon and sugar for a sweet version!
omg cinnamon and sugar version sounds SO good.
I saw this on Two peas and their pod…. I can’t wait to try it! Maria rocks.
definitely give it a try! i was so excited i could barely wait to make them 🙂
i used to looooooove wheat thins! i haven’t had them in a really long time though. these look great!
my favorite crackers were always cheeze-its (surprise surprise!). a while ago i made cheddar crackers from eat live run – they were close, but not the same…
oooh cheez-its. i always preferred goldfish to cheez-its and i do, in fact, have a goldfish recipe bookmarked as well. perhaps i’ll just bake my way through all the crackers 🙂
Yum! I’ve been wanting to make my own crackers for a while now–I just haven’t gotten around to (or I’ve been too lazy–haha)! But these look so good, I need to make time this weekend!! 🙂
yay! definitely give them a try and let me know how they turn out!
Lindsay, this is such a wonderful idea! Homemade Wheat Thins are so creative, and I bet they taste better than what comes out of the box! 🙂 Thanks for sharing. You have a beautiful blog and I’m looking forward to exploring your recipes. 🙂
thank you so much, Georgia! they are much better than the boxed version! thanks for reading….i LOVE your blog 🙂
OMG Wheat Thins were my go-to snack in college! They were perfect alone or with any dip you can imagine! I have never made crackers but this would be a reason to start trying!
this is definitely the reason to start trying 🙂 deliciousness is waiting
I am so busted! I have a box of Wheat Thins on my desk right now! And oddly enough they were totall giving off “guilt” vibes to me. I am absolutely going to try this wonderful recipe for homemade wheat thins. Thanks so much!
haha, that’s too funny! give the homemade ones a try and you’ll never go back!
I have been seeing homemade cracker everywhere, I guess I need to get down to business and crank out some of these deliscious looking treats!
yes you do!!! get baking lady 🙂
The girls and the PopPop can eat a whole box of Wheat Thins in minutes. Unfortunately they are rather cost prohibitive. How wonderful that I can make them so easily and frugally.
isn’t it!! definitely give them a try. i think they will like them 🙂
Yay! I’m totally making these!
hurray!!! let me know how you like them!
I love Wheat Thins…but not those ingredients! This is such a fantastic alternative 🙂
i thought so too! i love simple recipes 🙂
Hi! I just found your blog and had to say hi because we have similar blog names and I am studying to be an RD as well 🙂 Nice to “meet” you!
hi!!! so glad you found me…and i do love your blog name! how awesome that you’re in school also. can’t wait to check out your blog 🙂
I WANT TO MAKE THESE!!!! but I feel like I would screw them up. sigh.
maybe I’ll get brave enough to attempt them 🙂
you can totally do it! the hardest part is moving all the squares from the counter to the baking sheet 🙂 i’m making another batch this weekend and cutting out 1 tbsp butter and 1/2 tbsp sugar to see if they turn out still edible. AND i’m using Sarah’s brilliant idea to use my pasta maker to roll the dough so it’s all even thickness!
I made these today and they are a hit! I got better at getting them super thin by the end, but even the thicker ones are totally delish!!
awesome!! i’m so glad you liked them. I made a second batch today and made a few changes to make them healthier. i just posted about it. check it out 🙂 i also got better at rolling out the dough by the end!
These look AWESOME! So impressed that they look just like the originals. Feel free to post a link to them on our facebook page, would love to share with our readers
