{Recipe Redux} Homemade Gingerale

A simple, homemade recipe for Gingerale that’s lower in sugar and can be customized to your taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups water
  • lemon & lime slices, optional
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • seltzer water

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the ginger and 2 cups of water (and the lemon and lime if desired).
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Strain through a strainer or cheesecloth and let liquid cool.
  4. Clean the saucepan, then combine 1 cup water and ½ cup sugar.
  5. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove simple syrup from heat and let cool.
  6. In a glass, combine ½ cup seltzer water with ½ cup ginger water.
  7. Add 3 Tbsp simple syrup, stir and taste. Add an additional Tbsp if needed.
  8. Serve over ice!
