Have a Salad

Hi Friends!

Confession time. Prior to this week, I’m not totally certain when the last time I had a salad was.

I know, I know. Bad healthy living blogger right? Well don’t judge me too harshly. I’ve still been getting my veggies:

salad1

veg2veg3

veg4

See? But as far as salads go…not so much. Until this week. Over the weekend, the hubby and I went to our favorite restaurant and I noticed this on the menu:

22

I really wanted that salad, but I wasn’t in the mood to pay $10 for it, especially when I had all the ingredients at home!

So I’ll give you one guess what we had for dinner the next night?!

DSC 1534

Baby Spinach
Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Sliced Pears
Diced Red Peppers
Sliced Strawberries
Pecans
Fresh Goat Cheese

And I guarantee this didn’t cost $10.

So don’t be like me and go 2 months without…

Have a salad 🙂

Haha I need a salad today … eating out so much during the move and now eating at the hotel is catching up to me! I’m not feeling like myself … I need to get some veggies in my system! 🙂

    1. No such thing as a “bad” healthy living blogger.

    2. I try desperately to order ANYTHING but a salad when I go out to eat. The price for lettuce is astronomical…and you have proven my point that it is just as easy (and a whole lot cheaper) to make at home. 😉

That’s totally why I never get salads at resturants. I always feel like for the same price you can get some sort of delicious thing you couldn’t make yourself! Or, some healthy meat or chicken and a side salad!

That does look really good! I’ve never really been a big salad person. I love vegetables and eat a lot of them, but the ‘greens’ have just never been my favorite. When I’m grocery shopping, I’ll go by the lettuce and think I should buy some, but then I’m never sure what to have to go with it. I need to work on that!

i don’t like regular lettuce either. but i do like spinach salads. and when i put lots of fruit and other veggies on there it makes it easier to eat. the greens are almost like an afterthought 🙂

Strawberries in salads is one of my favorite things! I actually really like adding blueberries, apple, pineapple, or grapes sometimes too (mostly in the summer on those though), especially with pecans and some sort of soft cheese.
Your salad photo totally caught my eye – so bright and colorful! 🙂

It always amazes me how much restaurant charge of salads – especially when the stuff on top of them isn’t always the most fresh.

It looks to me like you had some awesome non-salad veggies. Besides, who says you have to have them in salads?! They can be more fun served in other forms!

I actually have a love/hate relationship with salads. Sometimes I love them so much and other times then make my skin crawl a little. If I do eat salad, it needs to be packed with goodies…just like the one you made! It’s actually on my list for next week to make some delicious salads!

Oh and btw…sadly $10 for a salad in NJ or NY is completely standard and actually a reasonable price…

I have a meal plan at the college I work for so I try to eat a salad 5x a week. There are some days where I eat 2 meals there so I at least I eat one salad a day.

That being said, the salad bar NEVER changes so I eat the same salad every day. It gets very boring.

I am suuuuuch a salad person – more so in the summer when local veggies are in season but there is NOTHING better than a salad like the one you had. Goat cheese (the trader joe’s blueberry one is freakin’ amazing) with fruit (strawberries, blackberries, apples or pears), lots of fun veggies (snap peas are good!) and a super-yummy light dressing. I love this! I also love your other foodie pics, I was drooling a wee bit, not gonna lie 😉
