Fitness Friday 35

Hi Friends!

We made it. It’s time for another Fitness Friday!

fitnessfriday11

After our discussion last week about how I was making some changes to my exercise plan,  I headed into this week determined to ease back into exercise after a few weeks off being sick. And that’s just what I did!

In the past, after taking a few weeks off, I’ve tried to jump back in and pick up where I left off. That usually resulted in me getting frustrated and giving up, or an injury. I’ve finally learned that starting small and building is the way to go.

So here’s what my week looked like:

Sunday we took the boys on a nice long hike. The weather was gorgeous and it was great to get moving.

Monday I did a felt the urge to run, so I headed out for one mile and then came home and did a quick bodyweight circuit in the living room. I ended the workout with a few planks.

Tuesday I had a busy day, but I came home and made some lentil veggie mac and cheese and after I put it in the oven to bake for 20 min, I headed downstairs to do a 20 minute workout. I did one of my favorite bodyweight circuits and finished just in time to eat dinner!

Wednesday was another long day so I gave myself a rest day.

Thursday I got home late after yet another long day (are you sensing a trend here? It’s been a long week!) I woke up late, had a long day of interning and then had to go straight to a meeting. By the time I got home, all I really wanted to do was go to bed. Instead, I threw on my leggings and running shoes and headed out into the dark to do 20 minutes of sprints. After a 2 min jog to warm up, I alternated between 30 seconds of sprinting and 30 seconds of walking for 20 minutes. It was tough! I forgot how much harder it is on my lungs to run when it’s cold outside. But I did it! And I came home feeling proud and accomplished after covering 2.25 miles!

So there you have it! Slowly but surely getting back into a routine!

Now let’s chat. I’m looking for some new workouts to try next week. Anybody posted/seen/pinned any good ones lately? Leave me links!!

Have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

Good for you for pushing yourself through a workout DESPITE being exhausted! Sounds like you had a long week and you wish you were with me again 🙂 I’m making coleslaw today for my demo, I hope it’s a bigger hit than the balls!

We did a running group workout of {60 sec on 60 sec off x 8} with three minutes rest and then repeated — very much like your 30″ on 30″ off — didn’t you just love it!! I love short sprints with short rest!! It makes the time go by quickly and it really pushes the heart-rate. It was my favourite speedwork workout so far!

Glad you’re getting back into things slowly- that’s always my challenge, too. I think I should jump right back in where I left off, but our bodies need to build back up slowly to prevent injury. Looks like you got some good suggestions- I was thinking of suggesting Christine’s workout, but I see she already mentioned it. Have a great weekend!
