Nutrient rich and super simple, this chocolate avocado pudding makes a great snack or dessert.
Hi Friends!
Today I’m finally sharing that delicious Chocolate Avocado Pudding recipe I’ve been teasing you with for the past week. I’ve never been a huge pudding fan myself but hubby likes chocolate pudding and I’ve had it on my list of things to make for a while now. I’ve looked at TONS of recipes and was just never crazy about the ingredients that most of them used.
When I did find a few recipes that I liked the ingredients in, several of them used bananas and nut butter to thicken them. Hubby doesn’t like bananas and I wanted this to be truly chocolatey, not overshadowed by nut butter mixed in.
I decided to use dates as the base. They’re naturally sweet and I like how you can puree them to be totally smooth. I figured I could combine them with avocado for a thick, smooth pudding. I added a little cocoa powder to get the chocolate flavor and some milk to help blend it all together and voila! 4 ingredients and crazy delicious.
Here’s the recipe (inspired by Minimalist Baker):
Print4 Ingredient Chocolate Pudding
Nutrient rich and super simple, this 4 ingredient chocolate pudding makes a great snack or dessert.
- Yield: 3 1x
Ingredients
- ½ – ⅔ cup chopped, pitted dates
- ½ cup smashed avocado
- ½ cup milk
- 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
- Optional toppings: bananas, nut butter, seeds, etc
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a high powered blender or food processor and process until smooth.
- Taste and add more dates if not sweet enough or more milk if too thick for your preference.
- Top as desired
When I told hubby what was in this pudding, he said “No f*!@king way!”.
Mind. Blown.
Even Squish can help make this recipe! Take a look:
Since I love peanut butter and banana I chose to add those to mine as toppings. Feel free to add whatever toppings you want or eat it as is.
Keep in mind that while I would consider this a healthy pudding option full of nutrients, it’s still calorie dense….so a small serving is all you need! If you divide one batch into 3 small servings, it’ll probably around 225 calories.

Looks delicious! I was surprised when I noticed it had dates in it, looking forward to trying it. The avocado pudding I usually make has nut butter in it, so this will be much different!

I just want to go on the record that I do in fact like bananas. I just don’t like bananas IN things. Ok, I feel better now.

I’m not a huge pudding fan either but drizzled with peanut butter sounds awesome! And I do have a bunch of dates. I found out they are NOT pitted however after nearly killing my food processor…

My husband just had a dental procedure and can’t have a lot of foods w seeds, etc, so he has been having a lot of smoothies and pudding. This would be a good one to try! I made a vegan chocolate pudding awhile ago, but your pictures are waaay better haha. Thanks for sharing!

Yummy! I’m curious about this avocado pudding. I will have to try it! I like that you put the disclaimer that it is still calorie dense. While dates do have a lot of healthy nutrients in them they are still high calorie and full of sugar.
Lindsay says
very true! a small portion is plenty!

I am with you about some of the other Choco-cado puddings out there. I have always used honey or maple syrup in mine, but I will have to try dates next time!
I, too, think banana can add an overwhelming (yet delicious) flavor.

Just made a batch of this, and it tastes like my mother’s chocolate cake batter… But healthy! I added a bit of vanilla and sea salt to deepen the flavor. Love it.

Question: is there a way that you can prepare the dates so that you won’t have pieces of dates in the pudding? One time I made a tofu chocolate pie and used firm tofu put in a blender. It had good flavor but dh thought it was “gritty” (that’s because I used firm tofu, just didn’t tell him there was tofu in it). Next time I’m going to use silken tofu and add some unflavored gelatin for the consistency and see if he’ll eat it. I know he’d never go for it if there was even the slightest bit of date in the pudding. But if I can get them “liquidy” he wouldn’t even know they were in it.
Lindsay says
i would try soaking them in hot water for a while beforehand and then put them in a food processor and you should be able to get them quite smooth
Duygu says
I added a little vanilla. Then topped with shredded coconut and chocolate chips. Can’t wait to eat it for dessert. Thanks Lindsay. I am big fan of your recipes.
