WIAW: Phone Dump

Hi Friends!

Time for another edition of WIAW :)
I’m calling this one phone dump because it’s not exactly one day of eats….
more like a lot of randomness…which is what I’ve been eating lately.

So let’s get to it!

Breakfasts lately have been pretty standard. A lot of this:

But over the weekend, I made my favorite brewer a hearty breakfast of
eggs, homemade spent grain bread, blackberries and OJ
so he’d be properly fueled to brew his latest batch of beer:

For lunch…turns out I’m kind of obsessed with egg sandwiches:

{Hummus, egg & Muenster cheese}

{Tomato, Avocado & Egg}

I’ve also been doing a lot of grabbing and going.
It feels like I’m always running somewhere.
I’ve been trying to be better about taking
my water bottle in the car so I drink more.

I’ve also been snacking on these new MilkBite Bars from Kraft! They sent me some to try for free {all opinions are honest and my own}. These bars are pretty cool. They’re granola bars, that you keep in the fridge because they contain milk and they contain as much calcium as a glass of milk! They come in chocolate chip and strawberry and they taste really good! Each bar has 3 grams of fiber, 5 grams of protein, 75 mg sodium, 6 grams of fat and 10 grams of sugar.

I’m not crazy about the fact that 1/2 of the fat is saturated, or that there are 10 grams of sugar…but compared to other granola bars, these do pretty well nutritionally. They’d be great for kids to try every once and a while if you’re having trouble getting them to drink their milk! I also love that there’s no preservatives or artificial flavors.

I preferred the chocolate over the strawberry because they weren’t quite as sweet and I actually kinda liked that they were cold instead of room temperature. You guys should give them a try if you’re looking for a fun new snack!!

Let’s talk about dinner…one of the best ones I’ve made
lately is this lovely little hodgepodge.

{Crumbled tortilla chips, roasted sweet potatoes,
sauteed peppers, onions & black beans,
avocado, tomato & cheese}

Last Friday, we went out to dinner. Pre-dinner snack:

 {What? Is this not normal?!}

Even more abnormal? Also ordering hummus for an appetizer :)
We also enjoyed a pesto, tomato & mozzarella pizza. Oh, and beer!

Over the weekend I also finally located a bag of chickpea flour
that I’ve been on the hunt for!

I promptly used it to make these:

{Sweet Potato Falafel w/ Tzatziki Sauce}
{Recipe coming soon!}

And don’t think I’ve been forgetting about dessert!

  {Homemade Cookies}
{Oatmeal, pb, chocolate chip & craisins}

{No explanation needed}

The hubby & I have also been enjoying a lot of these post-workout:

 {Have you noticed are smoothies are much greener than before?}
{A new post coming soon on the evolution of our smoothies!}

That’s all friends! Have you been enjoying any random eats lately?

Yesterday’s Workout: Rest day for me, but hubby made himself a little 100 workout so I thought I’d share it with you!

Today’s Workout: My legs were a bit tired still, even after my rest day but I wanted to do a little bit of running. I also knew I needed to do some upper body lifting. I’m notorious for avoiding pretty much all upper body weights except shoulder presses…but I’m working on it! I put together a 3 mile decrease run, where the miles are broken up by upper body exercises and each mile, you decrease the amount you run and increase the amount you walk.

I used my goal speeds from my 8 min miles workout and finally got it dead on! If you run alternating 8.6 and 6.6 mph you will finish a mile in exactly 8 min.

Pin It

With those treadmill speeds you’ll finish the first mile in 8 minutes, the second in 9:20 and the third in 10:40. You can make it more challenging my increasing the incline during the walking portions. For the lifting I used 10# dbs for everything except the tricep ext where I used one 15#.

  1. I’m a self-professed hummus addict, so I can completely relate to how much hummus you eat. I just can’t seem to get enough!

  4. So many of my WIAW’s are camera dumps. This one of yours was particularly good though, I think. Hummus and egg sounds like a good combo that I might have to try soon. and that tortilla chip sweet potato dinner looks great too. A bit of crunch and the softness of the sweet potatoes…mmmm.
    If you’re into hummus and just bought a bad of chickpea flour, don’t forget to try making chickpea flour hummus! It isn’t exactly the same, but it’s definitely worth the try indeed.
    as for the cookies- I’m of the opinion that the cookies are 10x better if you can see oats in them!!
    Hannah@mindrunningwild recently posted..Trying New Things

    • chickpea flour hummus was actually the first thing i made! you’re right, it is different. i’m not sure i like it…but it was fun to try making it! as for the cookies, my goal was to make them with mostly oats and very little flour. they’re a bit crumbly but i actually love them!!

  5. Sweet potato falafel and tzatziki looks awesome! I’m also loving the weekend breakfast… yum ♥

  6. Not a good post to read pre breakfast! Now I want homemade cookies and falafel for breakfast.

    And those granola bars sound pretty cool, but it’s too bad the saturated fat is so high. I should buy some though because I’m always trying to get more calcium in my diet! 😛

  31. I’m a hummus addict too! It’s the perfect snack and there are so many different varieties (my favorite being Trader Joe’s White Bean and Pesto hummus…mmmMMMmmm) – what’s not to love?
    Favorite way to eat hummus? More often than I’d like to admit, I walk by the fridge and hear the siren call, so I open the fridge, spy the shiny beacon (a.k.a. “tub o’ hummus”), open said tub and unashamedly shovel a fingerful of joy into my mouth. I like to term these occurances “Random Hummus Drive-Bys” :)

  32. My random eats were actually a burger and fries last night! I rarely eat a big, juice hamburger … but I met up with some friends at this place called EO Burger, and I just couldn’t resist! 😉
    Kristen @ notsodomesticated recently posted..Pinterest freaks me out and Orange Peel Shrimp.

  33. This is such a silly question, but for WIAW do you post the previous Wednesday’s eats? Everyone always has a full day of eating and where I am it is not even close to dinner time so…dumb question, right??
    I love hummus! Last night I went to one of my favorite NYC places called Nanoosh that has a bowl (which is really a platter) where you can dip and create your own pita however you want! (kind of like a Buritto bowl at chipotle). I’m hungry just thinking about it!
    Talia @ Bite Size Wellness recently posted..Eat Some Stars for Heart Month: A February “Star” Fruit

    • not a silly question! when i do WIAW posts, they’re almost never from an actual day of eating on a wednesday. some weeks i post what i ate on tuesday, other weeks it’s a random collection or has a certain theme. don’t feel like you can only post what you eat on wednesday!

  34. Claire Smith says:

    Do you have the recipe for the spent grain bread? It looks so yummy!

  35. ahh i love felafel and hummus! it’s been sooo long since i have had real good felafel. there was a Mediterranean place that had the best, but they closed! and when i make my own it just is never the same. probably because i don’t fry them and really that’s the only way to have it!!
