WIAW: On Grocery Day

Hi Friends!

It’s Wednesday…which means it’s time for WIAW…and guess what, I did a real one for you this week. After my last WIAW post someone emailed me saying they were shocked that I could eat that much in one day. Well here’s the deal, friends. I do eat a lot. I’m pretty much eating something every couple hours..but unless I explicitly state that everything was eaten in one day, my WIAW’s are usually a time for me to share things with you from the past week that didn’t make it on the blog. It’s an assortment of things I’ve eaten throughout the week….NOT all in one day.

Anyways, the email made me realize that it’d been a while since I did a legit WIAW. I only do them occasionally because quite frankly, I eat a lot of the same things…especially for breakfast and lunch…so posting one every week just doesn’t seem all that exciting to me.

However, yesterday was grocery day. Let me put it another way- we DESPERATELY needed to go to the grocery store. We were basically down to peaches, which I randomly bought last weekend, red peppers-which I rarely run out of because I buy 12 at a time at Costco, greek yogurt, and eggs.
So that’s what I ate.

We were out of a lot of things that I normally eat so I had to make some changes to my typical meals. We were even out of cereal! GASP!

Oh, also- I ate three peaches in one day because that’s the only fruit we had. But mainly because I love peaches. And I probably would have eaten 3 anyways…even if I did have other options. They’re my summer weakness.

Another side note- I spent most of the day cooped up in the bedroom because we had to get a new furnace/AC unit. I basically tried to keep the dogs from barking at guys installing it and keep the cats from sneaking out the front door as they went in and out…all while trying to get a case study done. Exciting stuff.

Ok, so let’s get started shall we?

Breakfast- 7:30am

As we’re all well aware, I eat cereal every morning. Except the mornings we’re out of cereal. Then I eat peanut butter and jelly toast. And there was coffee. There’s always coffee.

Snack #1: 10:30am
Lunch: 12:30pm

Snack was peach #1 and a few 34 degrees crackers.
Lunch was the last little bit of Sweet & Spicy Strawberry Peach Guac
Plus the last of the tortilla chip crumbles from the bottom of the bag
And a bowl of plain Chobani greek yogurt, with a scoop of blood orange.
Plus peach #2, almonds, some Love Grown Foods granola and chia seeds.
Normally there would have been oatmeal on the bottom…
But we were out of oats.
That rarely happens because I buy the 10 lb box from Costco. Time to restock.

Snack #2- 3:00pm

Tuna salad- made with 1 can of tuna, red onion, red pepper, a little greek yogurt, curry powder & cayenne pep.
I ate about 1/3 of it before I ran out of Kashi crackers…
So I ate the rest of the red pepper instead.
Then I made a smoothie, because it was hot and I thought I wanted one.
But I didn’t have any spinach, or orange juice…
and it was too yogurty after my lunch.
So I ate 3 bites and stuck it in the freezer…
Because I’ll probably want it tomorrow after my workout.

Snack #3- 5:00 pm

We buy these at Costco too. They’re pretty good and they have 10 g of protein.
The hubby eats most of them but occasionally I eat one.

Snack #4- 6:00pm

Green beans.
You can’t tell in the picture but that’s literally probably a pound of green beans.
Fact: I can’t stand mushy green beans. Or warm green beans.
I microwave mine for 3-4 minutes so they’re cooked but still crunchy.
Then I immediately put them in cold water.
And then I eat them.
And they’re delicious.
Yes I am weird.

Oh, and then I had a tiny treat:

Thanks to Dorry I’m going to start keeping them in the freezer…YUM!

Snack #5- 7:00pm

Hubby & I have a little pre-grocery shopping tradition.
We go to the bar around the corner, across the street from the store.
We drink a $1 beer and enjoy $2 chips and salsa.
Then we grocery shop.
It’s the best way to do things.

Then we restocked at the grocery store. Is there really anything better?

Dinner- 9:30pm

Personal pan fritatta for one- with red pepper, onion, and 2 eggs
Topped with Muenster cheese. Duh.
And toast.
Fact- I cannot eat eggs without toast.
Hubby had some Morningstar Buffalo tenders or something…
and some blackberries.
And these chips- they’re his favorite:

I had a handful. I like them too!

Dessert- 10:30pm

Microwave Peach “Crisp”
I melted 1/2 Tbsp butter, mixed in a crushed graham cracker
and pressed into a bowl.
I topped it with peach #3, sliced, and 2 Tbsp granola.
Microwave for 2 minutes, top with a scoop of yogurt and enjoy!

So there ya have it! A full day of eats.

Sooooo….. if you follow me on instagram if you’ve already seen all these pics! Sorry about that! But if you’re not following me on instagram you should be! (search username: theleangreenbean). I take pictures of lots of fun stuff :) And let me know your username so I can follow you too!

    • haha i grew up eating around 7:30 so i’m used to eating late…not quite that late but there are plenty of nights we don’t eat til 8:30 or 9 :)

  8. That looks like such fun- I especally love your tradition, I’d never thought of one like that before, but it’s a nice thing to have :)

  9. Ahhh, there’s nothing better than a well stocked fridge after scraping by with odds and ends! The week after Blend got pretty interesting for me since I was out of just about everything and had zero time to get to the store, but I made it through…and then I went and dropped about $100 at Sam’s Club on fruits, veggies, bread, and seafood (man I wish I had a Costco)! Of course, I can’t remember the last time I ran out of cereal…I usually run out of Greek yogurt or almond milk first…and well, I do have like 5 OPEN boxes of cereal in my pantry…and who know’s how much granola (I seem to be on a kick right now)!

Love the microwave peach crisp! I’ll have to keep that in mind when we get some peaches at the farmer’s market!

    • haha i usually only have 2 cereals at a time. that’s probably why i run out..but i try not to let that happen, because it’s tragic!

  10. Is there anything more beautiful than the sight of a fully stocked fridge? [Perhaps biting into ajuicy fresh peach? ;)]

And chocolate chips are SO good in the freezer. Also, peanut butter M&Ms. I told my little cousins this once, and I swear I changed their lives.

I’m so behind on blog reading, but I love the looks of that guac!!!
