Twitter Favorites

Hi Friends-

This is a very random post…but you’ll have that sometimes. So you know the “favorite” button on twitter? I’m sure a lot of you are probably familiar with it. What you may not be familiar with is the proper way to use it.

 Twitter Favorites

Well, I’m not here to tell you that. Quite honestly, I have no idea exactly how you’re supposed to use it.

What I am going to tell you is a funny little story. Ever since I signed up for Twitter, I have been occasionally favoriting tweets. Some people use the “favorite” button similar to the way they use the “like” button on facebook. I don’t. I’ve been using mine more like an on-the-go bookmark. For the past year and a half I’ve been occasionally favoriting tweets with links to aritcles/posts/etc that I wanted to read but couldn’t read at that moment for whatever reason.

The sad part? I never actually went back and read them. Until now. Last week, I accidentally clicked on the favorites tab while on twitter on my computer and this HUGE list of favorites came up. As I started scrolling through them, I realized just how many things I had favorite but never read. So I started going through them.

I thought it’d be fun to share some of them with you guys. Some of these posts are OLD. Like from last year. Some are relatively new. It’s a nice little mix for ya. I by now means expect you to sit here and read all of these, but I’m sharing just in case you see something that grabs your attention!

So here’s the totally random list of things I’ve favorited over the past year or so:

So there you have it. Now that I’m all caught up, I’ve decided that the “favorite” button is my new favorite. It’s a great way for me to mark things I want to go back and read while i’m quickly scrolling through my twitter feed on the shuttle in to work or on my lunch break. It takes no time at all during my busy day, and gives me the freedom to go back and read them when I have time.

And I promised myself I wouldn’t wait another year before playing catchup icon smile Twitter Favorites

Let’s chat: How do you use the “favorite” button?

Enjoy!

  1. oh cool! Thank you for featuring my pitch letter post! I hope it helps you out a bit. I found some seriously awesome posts in there I want to read – like the What is Tabata training one. I honestly don’t know what a tabata is :)

  3. Haha! I have done the same thing where I randomly favorite things expecting to go back and read them or share them in some way, but never do. I wonder what’s in my “favorites store”. And thanks for the love!

  5. I use it as a bookmark too -especially when I’m tweeting from my phone and don’t feel like reading a whole article. It shocked me when I realized people were using the “favorite” button as a “like” button. I couldn’t figure out why people were favoriting some of my tweets. LOL!

  6. Yep, I use that favorite button too, and rarely go back to read them again. But, I usually only favorite things that I’ve read. I have a “favorite tweets” widget on my blog, so I favorite things so they show up there!
Now, I need to go read that Today’s Dietitian article about protein powder…I don’t think I’ve read that!

  7. I’m with you! I just use it to bookmark. I say save the “liking” for Facebook–it creates too many notifications for me!!! I feel like if you’ve liked what I’ve said THAT much, retweet it!!! :-D And these are great bookmarks–I’ll have to check ‘em out tonight

  15. Haha, I love that you did that! So you favourite them, and I instead will email myself the twitter link…and then never look at them again. Because most of the time I browse twitter on my phone, so when I do see a tweet with a link that I know I’ll like, I figure, might as well email myself so when I’m actually on my computer, I’ll go to that link there. Who are we kidding?! lol

I then did a quick google search about what favoriting a tweet means. lol. I still haven’t used this feature myself, but I love your idea of how to use the favorite feature!
